Ship leaves Ingalls for homeport

PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) left Huntington Ingalls in Pascagoula Saturday to head back to the homeport in San Diego. According to the Naval Sea Systems Command, it involved more than two years of work to restore and modernize the ship damaged in a collision in 2017 that claimed the lives of seven sailors. Various repairs were made to assist with restoration and modernization efforts and to ensure the ship added to an agile and dynamic fleet. (Source: WLOX-TV, 06/13/20)
